The Gateway Church of Christ has an average attendance on Sunday mornings of 300+ and we are starting to grow out of Higley Elementary.
We cannot continue to expect to reach more people working out of our current facility. Our visibility is too low and our rent is too high. We need a place where our children can be better served and the needs of the community addressed. We also need a place of permanency to communicate to those who don't know us: we are here to stay and serious about being a positive influence to our neighborhoods. To meet the growing need Gateway has purchased a 10 acre tract of land in Maricopa County south of Pecos road and west of Higley and east of Val Vista roads.
The plan involves constructing a church building that includes classrooms, Auditorium, fellowship hall and all supporting services (like nice bathrooms and our very own baptistery). Ample parking will be provided to exceed the parking requirements of the controlling authority. Various stages will be used to build the structures depending on available funding.
This campaign is not about us. All we can do is commit in faith, knowing the seeds that we as a family plant today will grow into a harvest tomorrow.

In May of 2002, the eldership at the Mesa Church of Christ, announced to the worshipping body a vision to plant a congregation in the emerging suburb of Gilbert. Gilbert is the fastest growing city in the United States and has the 2nd fastest growing zip code. The booming city is full of young families with children without a nearby Church of Christ to call home. On September 15th , 2002, the group who volunteered to be a part of the plan met for the first time in a fellowship hall to discuss and make plans for the future of the church. |
In January of 2003, the “plant church” first worshipped at the fellowship hall at Surrey Gardens in Gilbert. A nucleus of 80 members sang, prayed and worshipped as the Gateway Church of Christ.
Packed into the fellowship hall at Surrey Garden, the temperature was usually warm and the singing was always vibrant. God was adding to the number on a weekly basis. Recognizing the fast paced growth and the lack of ample parking, Gateway Church of Christ began to meet at Higley Elementary School on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. |

On May 4th of 2003, the Gateway Church of Christ had it's first Sunday morning worship service. 161 were in attendance that day! Different men in the congregation and invited guests shared the word to the body until July of 2003, when Randy Thomas was selected as the first minister of Gateway Church of Christ.

As summer turned to fall, and the number continued to multiply, Gateway held it's grand opening on October 19th , 2003. 320 were in attendance that day!
As God continued to bless the Gateway family, the congregation purchased 10 acres in the heart of Gilbert, at the cross roads of Higley and Pecos on January 9th, 2004 .
In May of 2004, our ministry doubled, as Thomas Aduddell was selected as the youth and worship minister.
Over our two year history, the membership has grown from 80 to 250 members. The community is continuing to grow and we are experiencing the need for larger and more adequate facilities to meet the need of this faithful congregation. |
